When prioritizing issues, too often we fall into the trap of solving what’s screaming the loudest. Other times we get distracted by what feels easiest or quickest. Instead, use better filters.
Here are powerful questions your team can ask to prioritize issues that actually move the business forward:
- Which issues are causing our Rocks to be off track?
- Which issues are causing our Measurables to be in the red?
- Which issue, if solved today, would have the biggest impact on achieving our vision?
- Which issue will help us win the game this week?
- Which issue has the biggest impact on profit or cash flow?
- Which problem, once solved, will remove the biggest constraint in our system?
- What’s the current bottleneck slowing us down?
- What’s the ONE issue we can solve that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?
- Which issue could create a domino effect of positive outcomes?
- Which issue, when resolved, will reduce the most waste in our processes?
- Which issue affects our customer experience or process quality the most?
Don’t let any framework override your team’s judgment. Use these questions to guide discussion—but trust your data, your vision, and your gut. The goal isn’t just to solve problems—it’s to solve the right problems at the right time.
